Welcome to our newly revamped website launched this year 2025, which heralds the 63rd Anniversary of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). Pursuant to section 94 of the constitution the Director of Public Prosecutions is vested with the power to initiate, take over, and terminate prosecution in all courts in Jamaica.
The ODPP is also the designated Central Authority for Mutual Legal Assistance Services as per section 2 of The Mutual Assistance (Criminal Matters) Act, 1995 (MACMA) and the designated authority for Terrorism Prevention as per section 25 (2) (b) of The Terrorism Prevention Act, 2011 and the competent authority for Extradition.
In order to execute the functions of the office, there are Fifty-five (55) Crown Counsel to assist the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in the execution of her duties, and who are prepared to prosecute. This team of competent and well Trained Attorney has been selected after a competitive selection process and they are committed to prosecuting without fear or favour.
We have a highly motivated staff who give service above self and are supported by forty-four (44) additional staff in Information Technology, Human Resource Management, Administrative and Ancillary who work assiduously to ensure that justice does not only appear to be done but is done in all cases.
